Debate helps learners to see the power of deploying rational, reasoned arguments and compelling evidence in action. It enables them to elucidate their standpoint through utilizing rhetorical eloquence. To teach the students the skills of researching, organizing, and presenting information in a compelling way, an English Debate was organised in Dharav High School, Jaipur on 26 August ’22 for classes VI to XI.
The activity was conducted in two phases. For classes VI to VIII, the format taken was the turncoat and for classes IX to XI, it was the parliamentary form.
The students in the VI to VIII category debated on relevant topics like ‘Junk food should be banned for students’ and 'India has been able to achieve its dreams in these 75 years of Independence.' Students from classes IX to XI put forth their point of view on a very pertinent issue if dictatorship can be the choice of governance in the modern era. All the debates were rigorously discussed in the house. The activity increased the participant’s confidence, poise, and self-esteem. The audience was enriched and enlightened by the informed arguments, evidence and logical reasoning. The Principal, Ms Seema Sehajpal, appreciated the participants for the way they had analysed the topic and logically presented their arguments maintaining the dignity and decorum of the house.
